Tchaikovsky, plus Natalie Portman, plus Winona Ryder, plus Darren Aronofsky, plus costume styling by Rodarte, all wrapped up in a psychological thriller reminiscent of Showgirls meets a Nine Inch Nails video??? YES PLEASE!

Darren Aronofsky’s work is not for everyone. His debut into cinematic notability, Pi, is dense in esoteric theory and hard to digest. Requiem for a Dream‘s depiction of addiction was possibly one of the most disturbing movie experiences I have ever had, which in my opinion means it is a GREAT movie. 2008′s The Wrestler was a fantastic departure for Aronofsky into mainstream digestability. Black Swan, his latest work, which I have not yet seen, is a movie about the NY ballet and a psycho-obsessed ballerina degenerating into madness. I am very excited to see how he tackles this subject and genre.

Another key incentive to see this film is that the ballerinas are styled by Rodarte. I have a very soft spot for the Mullveay sisters as they are Pasadena natives, close to my home, and I am right between their ages. Much of their work references the Southern California landscape in ways that I appreciate. I am excited to see the 40 Black Swan ballerinas fluttering and floating around in Rodarte. Let me know what you think if you’ve seen any sneak peeks. Black Swan is opening for wide release Dec. 3rd 2010.
